Habitat for Humanity Houses
In 2004, St. James joined with Halifax Habitat for Humanity and committed volunteers and funds to build a home for its "partner", Loretta Golden. The giver and receiver were both blessed by the gift. The family of St. James found new skills and appreciation for each other, new friendships and a refreshed commitment to the work of the Church.
Two years later, six different Episcopal churches: St. James, Grace, St. Peter the Fisherman, St. Mary, St. Timothy and Holy Child, brought together their congregations to raise money and volunteer with Habitat to build two homes on the same street for two wonderful "partner" families: Mrs. Lillian Usher a mother of four and a grandmother of seven and Ms. Bichicka Hines a single mother of a daughter.
Everyone involved has felt an enormous gratitude that we able to do this. There are ongoing opportunities to work with Halifax Habitat for Humanity. If you are interested in being a part of this mission, please contact Joan Grennan atjgrennan@aol.com.
