Ministerial Staff
The Rev. Fred Hovey, Jr. is serving as our Interim Rector. Prior to this he served as a Retired Associate at St. James Church for nine years.
He attended the University of Tennessee and the University of Florida and graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. Prior to entering the seminary in 1962, he worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., for thirteen years. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and served on active duty for one year in Korea. In 1965 he became the first Vicar at Gloria Dei Episcopal Church in Cocoa, Florida. From there he served as an Assistant at the Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota, Florida. He was Rector of the Church of Incarnation in Highlands, N.C. for six years, after which he elected to become non-stipendiary, serving as a supply and interim priest in the Diocese of the Western North Carolina.
He and his wife, Velva, owned a retail store in Highlands for twenty years. They have 2 sons, Fred II and Bryan, and 2 grandsons , Jason and Matthew. Contact Father Hovey at fhovey@stjamesormondbeach.com . |
Ashton Williston, our Youth Minister, came to St. James Episcopal Church in May of 2006. She was born in New Smyrna Beach, FL. and was baptized at St. James. Growing up, Ashton was extremely involved in Youth Ministry in the diocese of Northern Indiana and began her Youth Ministry career at Holy Trinity in Melbourne, FL. in 2002. She received her Associate in Arts degree at Brevard Community College and will soon graduate from the University of Central Florida. | The Rev. Judy Mathis is a Vocational Deacon who serves as both the Parish Outreach Coordinator and the Pastoral Care Coordinator. She is a graduate of the University of Miami (B. A.) and Syracuse University (M. S.) and was a high school English teacher and guidance counselor for nearly 30 years. Judy has completed the diaconal course at The Institute of Christian Studies and was ordained in December, 2003. A member of St. James since 1982, she previously served as Senior Warden and has been active in numerous ministries. Julie Roth is the Christian
Education Director at Saint James Episcopal School and Church. She
received her B. A. from Stetson University in 1991 and taught
kindergarten for five years. After the birth of her first child she
became a stay at home mom. She and her husband Matt are a family of
six with Will (7), Ben (6), Mary Mc Kay (4), and Kate (2). Now that
the children are of school-age Julie is eager to be back in the
classroom sharing with each child the knowledge that they were
created as a unique individual and are loved by God. Contact Mrs.

| Paige Long, Minister of Music, is a seasoned church musician. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Arts Degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. Experience includes adjunct faculty Stetson University, Deland, Florida; New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, Massachusetts; choral director, organist, concert flutist, orchestral and chamber musician. Prior to coming to St. James in the winter of 2004, Paige was a Director of Music at Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Andover, Minnesota.
