S.J.E.C. History
St. James
Church was built in 1891 and was organized as a mission of St.
Mary's Church of Daytona Beach. St. James Church was separated
from St. Mary's Church in 1908 and became an organized mission
church.
We moved to
our present site in July 1921. The first service in the rebuilt
church (now our chapel) was on January 1, 1922. St. James became a
parish in May 1954.
The parish
house addition, which included a new kitchen, was built in July
1958. Construction for the new (present) church began on May 7,
1961. The first service in the new church was on March 4, 1962. In
1990 St. James celebrated its 100th birthday and on September 18,
1990, the Ormond Beach City Commission designated the original
church building, the present chapel, as an historical
landmark.
