Communication

COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH FAMILY

The Communications Team with Vestry members, Georgia Canakaris and Mike Staley, and Chairman, Patti Parsons, has been working diligently to improve our church and school communication both internally and with the community at large. We have called upon additional people to help us with different tasks. Our basis for improving all forms of communication is an addition of an eighteen month Master Planning Calendar on the wall in the church office. All dates and events of the church and the school must be on this calendar to be included in communication pieces such as print Announcements and the Web Site.

If you have not looked at the St. James web site recently, you may not be aware that we have one of the best. Other churches have even called to inquire or compliment us on it. Alternate Image, under the guidance of Michelle Herrin, has done a wonderful job of keeping us up to date on the latest innovations. Having an interesting web site is extremely important in today's world of technology. Our "Blast Email" feature enables us to send out important information when it is needed most.

Paulette Kennedy is now the webmaster for both church and school. She has worked diligently to see that news and events from each is on both websites. Dave Neubauer and Paul Phillips are in charge of photography and seeing that pictures from all events are emailed to Paulette for posting on the web sites for everyone to share.

Some of our weekly sermons are on the web site and we are working to have them posted on the web each week. This is a wonderful tool as it enables shut-ins or those who have missed a service to still hear the sermon. It also enables those who are looking for a church to see if they would enjoy attending St. James.

We have changed our Worship Bulletin to a larger format, making it more user friendly. On Sunday, December 3rd, we introduced our new four page Announcements Section in the bulletin. It is our hope that people will take this section home and use it to stay updated on upcoming events. We welcome any suggestions for improving this piece which may lead to a quarterly newsletter. Sonny Mathis and Liz Lewis are working to update our mailing and email lists so we can communicate more effectively with our church family and friends.

We have put up several banners this year for our Sunday School Bible Blast and our Alpha classes. We have redone our weekly listing in the "Sunday News Journal" Worship page and did a Christmas ad in the "Hometown News". We are increasing communication between the church and school by featuring school news in our Sunday Worship Bulletin and web site, and by featuring church news in the school's "Wednesday Words" newsletter and web site.

We are grateful for the many volunteers who have stepped up to help us improve all aspects of our communication. Your efforts are making a difference.

We welcome all comments and suggestions to make our web site work for us. Contact pparsons@stjamesormondbeach.com with any input - news, calendar events and pictures you would like to contribute.
