FAMILY MINISTRY AT ST. JAMES IS...

Did you know that the marriage service in the Book of Common Prayer emphasizes ministry within Christian families when it declares that it is God’s intention for the parents to care for children “and their nurture in the knowledge and love of the Lord.” Furthermore, in the service of baptism the parents who present their children are asked, “ Will you be responsible for seeing that the child you present is brought up in the Christian faith and life?”

Helping parents shape the lives of their children “in the knowledge and love of the Lord” is the purpose of all family ministry programs.  They, of course, presume the ongoing faith development of the parents too.

The upcoming programs this fall will give St. James families many opportunities to grow in their relationship with God.   On Sunday, September 11th, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will commence.  This will be the second year in the Atrium.  There will be new material that deepens the knowledge of lessons from last year.  Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is for children from 3 to 12 years of age.  We will meet weekly in the Atrium at 9:50 am and join our families for Holy Eucharist.

Once the children begin sixth grade, they will be a part of the youth program.  In September, there will be a new group implemented for the Middle School students.   On Sunday evenings, the Middle School will meet from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Part of their program will include Rite 13 material and of course dinner!  Thursdays with Ashton will continue with the Middle School students at St. James Episcopal School.  The Senior High youth group will maintain their tradition by meeting on Sundays from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.  During the remainder of the Summer we will meet biweekly.  The Young Adult Happy Hour group has taken off full steam ahead. This evening provides an opportunity for fellowship for both parents and children.

Please keep the many components of our family ministry in your prayers, and plan now to be an active participant in the fall.

Faithfully,

Ashton
