Holiday Bridge Challenge IV
The morning of December 31st dawned with conditions perfect for a race.  Thank you to those of you who made our 4th Annual Holiday Bridge Challenge such a success.  Thank you to those of you who worked and those of you who ran.  Everyone had a great time. A big thank you to Charlie and Stacey Scrabis and to Joe Hindman who were the race captains.  It simply wouldn't have happened without you.  There were over 300 runners this year many from places far away. In the near future, we will inform you of the amount raised for those ministries supported by St. James Outreach.
Daughters of the King
St. James is the home of the Sts. Martha and Mary Chapter of the National Order of the Daughters of the King.  Currently there are ten members who are active;  all women members of St. James are welcome to come to the monthly meetings held in the Chapel on the first Saturday at 2:00 pm.  Daughters pledge to a lifetime of daily prayer and service directed toward strengthening the spiritual life of the parish. We offer daily prayers for each clergy member and remember each of them monthly with notes and gifts.  Annually the DOK sponsors a Quiet Day, which in 2012, will be the first Saturday in Lent.
Note Cards for Sale $ 5.00
These note cards are from the original oil paintings by Barbara Isherwood of the St. James stained glass windows and are available in the church office.
Save the Date - January Adult Happy Hour
Friday, January 20th at Michelle and Tom Leek's House....more details to come.....
Upcoming Class Offered
Beginning on Januray 23rd, with the assistance of mystic Thomas Keating, I will be facilitating a completely different kind of conversation, one that will include intentional meditation and reflection commonly known as Centering Prayer.  You are invited to join this brief, but potentially life-changing study/reflection session on Monday evenings from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.  If you would like to be involved please notify Tracy Anderson at the parish office.  The cost of the text is twenty dollars and we must have at least fifteen registered in order to proceed.  See you in the circle! and YES, more NOOMA! to come.   Jim+
Prayer in Gethsemane. Part Three: The Strengthening Angel
"BUT AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN APPEARED TO HIM, STRENGTHENING HIM.  AND BEING IN AGONY, HE WAS PRAYING MORE EARNESTLY.  AND HIS SWEAT BECAME AS IF DROPS OF BLOOD FALLING TO THE EARTH."  Looking forward to Lent:  ( a session intended for those who need to do penance!)  Trust me this will not happen every year but if 20 individuals are brave enough, are committed enough, we are going deep as we journey towards Easter through Raymond Brown's work:  The Death of the Messiah: Volume I.  On Monday Evenings from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, for five weeks, I will pick selected readings from Brown's voluminous work and we will journey from Gethsemane to the Grave.  Think hard before you register for this session, but for those who dare, you will be changed.  Cost of text, $ 39.00.  Jim+
Choir Notes
The Adult Choir holds regular rehearsals on Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the Conference Room of the Annex.  New members are always welcome. The Saint James Choir is open to all interested singers, including high school students.   The choir sings every Sunday and has wonderful rehearsals.  Come and find out what you are missing.  We work hard and strive for musical excellence, but we also have fun and fellowship.  Childcare is provided.  For more information, please contact Gini Koepkey at the church office....386-677-0872 Ext 303 or vkoepkey@gmail.com  Please join us and sing for joy!

Koutiala Hospital for Women & Children in Mali, Africa
Thanks so much to the Outreach Committee and to all of you who participated in the Oktoberfest fundraisers as we raised $ 1358.49 for the solar project for this hospital.  The good news is that this amount will be doubled due to matching gifts offered!  The need is great as the city power is costly and sometimes fails, creating a dangerous situation for patients relying on oxygen machines and other medical equipment.  2 new buildings will be opened in 2013, and without solar panels, the hospital will have to purchase a larger diesel generator for $ 60,000.  The Malian sun and solar panels will provide constant power.  Your support is making a difference!
Phone Use in Church?!!
The next time you see someone looking down at their Smartphone during the service, don't assume they are making lunch reservations or changing their fantasy football lineup.  There are many resources available for worship on electronic devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Androids.  The entire Book of Common Prayer is available as an app and is very easy to follow along during the service.  Olive Tree publishes just about every version of the Bible as well as devotions, study guides and commentaries all in the palm of your hand.  The St James Web Site www.stjamesormondbeach.com has been set up to access via your personal device so you can read the announcements, check the upcoming calendar and even read the Daily Office at any time.  All of these tools are available to enhance your worship device and help us go paperless.  And don't forget to "Check In" to let all of your Facebook friends know that you are in church and they should be as well!
